short shift kits

Has anyone with an X5/X3 that is manual installed a short shift kit or swaped the shift from another BMW to reduce the shift throw. I found this site http://understeer.com/index.htm that had interesting information on the subject. Unfortunately is directed twords the 3 and 5 series. http://understeer.com/shiftlever.shtml

Unfortunately, I have run into alot of resistance from aftermarket BMW parts distributors. I have been researching a short shift for my 2001 X5 manual 5 speed. People either think my car came from Germany and never was made for the US or they just say they show NO parts available.
I have asked if they have ever heard of a 528 or 535 short shift working in an X5. Everyone says NO. So I plan on just buying the EVO kit and trying it. Worst comes to worst, I take a loss on the kit and sell it on ebay or craiglist to a 5 series owner.
