In what transmission? The BMW X5 E53 has at least three different automatic transmission options, from two different manufacturers. ;)

Sorry still getting to know my car. I have the 05 3.0 5 speed. i assume that's the GM one?

You have a GM 5L40. Use Dexron VI fluid.

Valvoline MaxLife is what I used in my GM 5L40 with great results earlier this year. :thumbup:

When I had the X I used GM Dexron III. I may still have a case of that stuff lying around the garage.
