Ok to remove the waffles?

I have read conflicting opinions about whether or not removing the waffle lenses from the headlight (xenon) assembly adversely affects light output. Has anyone experimented with this?

My guess would be that removing the HID waffle will have no effect, but removing the high beam/halogen waffle might be bad.

I'm doing Predators next week and thinking about pulling the waffles while I'm in there. Please help.

I don't think they affect the light output but I personally don't like the look without the waffles.

I will be yanking mine, the waffles ages the X. I have a friend that yanked his and we put our cars together at night to see if there was any effect, and the answer is a big fat NO. There was no glear or difference in the light direction, just makes the car look cleaner. Yank em with no ill effect.

Peace

Waffles aren't necessary, but I kept them on when I cleared my headlights.

I suspect that this has a lot to do with blinding the oncoming light. With most cars that have xenon, I am blinded when they are oncoming or if they are in my rearview. However with X5s I've noticed that that's not the case at all. All you see is the light on the ground and the small circle of light at the point of projection; very easy on the eyes.

I've thought about removing ours, but I def don't want to blind oncoming traffic and I think the lights look kinda plain/naked without the "waffles".
