Update; last year I determined how to clone the existing binary data from the old ECM to the used replacement, after I was able to complete the EWS synchronization procedure.

The abrites commander program was not compatible with the existing dme ME 7.x.x

I was able to perform this procedure on the workbench. I had to use a program called 'new serial 1260' that comes with Flasher Galetto 1260 EOBD programmer with FTDI chip on board. And had to use the Audi option as it was the only way to communicate with the dme. See screen shots.

I did write a word document of the instructions are attached, not easy to do.

Great information!

Agreed! Downloaded the doc.

I have to get an ECU dump out of my DDE on the E70 to clear a no start due to SCR DEF countdown expired. Wonder if this program would be able to do that. Have more reading to do on the subject and whether it would be worth the time to go through the effort. Or, if I should just send it to one of the services who clear such things for ~$400.

Not the appropriate tool, the read/write tool I was using only is for the control ROM data... that is written and programmed in the manufacturing stage

@Crystalworks you should be able to reset your countdown timers within tool32 by selecting the appropriate program files... :dunno:
Maybe this is a starting point... https://www.mycor-media.de/tool32/#tab-id-6 and set translate from german
but you should make a new thread

Damn, nice work. Way beyond my capabilities. I’m limited to monkey skills and some heavy lifting! I do worry about the DME, EWS, or some other box taking a dump on me and am considering having the EWS deleted in the future as the car gets (even) older.

I’m assuming that when I read about the “EWS delete” offered by tuners that would make it easier to replace a failed DME?

Deleting the EWS system would make a used DME replacement become plug and play essentially. Many Porsche owners have their 'ews system' sent out for deletion as well, because the 996 series' anti-theft control modules under the drivers seat are prone to failure with water ingress. And it costs more to replace or repair the modules and get new keys, etc. And likely run into same issues in the future.

Not sure whois doing this service on our older E53's however, they maybe only able to do it on certain control modules for certain engine types but who knows.

Nice info.
Lots of MS43 DMEs for 3.0l available on ebay for under $100 with EWS deleted. Just plug and play. Not sure about 4.4l

This is cheap, $40 to have ews deleted on ME 7.2
