Android head unit + FM radio antenna issue
 

Hi all, have a great and safe year :)

I have an issue and need your help please.

Recently I bought an Android head unit for my X5 E53 2006 Navi (https://www.erisin.com/products/eris...-e39-e53-x5-m5)

Installation completed successfully and all functionalities work as expected, except from the FM radio.

Although I can find radio stations and listen to them, the audio has very poor quality (noise). The built in antenna/radio amp seem to work well, as I had no issues with my previous default bmw unit.
The Android head unit’s FM system seems to work well also, as when I disconnect the car antenna and attach a single wire the quality of audio is very good.

I know that a new antenna may solve the issue, but I want to make it work with the default antenna if possible.

Do you have any clue?

The factory antenna needs power (it has an RF amp, called a diversity module), which WAS provided by the factory head unit. You may need to locate the power feed to the factory antenna and connect it to a power source to get it work correctly. There should be an antenna power feed from the new headunit.

Couldn't find anything when I had a quick look. I'll keep digging and I'll also look at the wiring diagrams and see if I cannot come up with a fix, since this question does come up here occasionally.

The antenna diversity module (amplifier/combiner etc. - module N8) is in the upper edge of the rear trunk lid. It's powered by Fuse F86 (5A) in the rear right side of the trunk. Start by checking that isn't blown.

The antenna diversity module (N8) is also connected the the General Module (A1) so my have some form on "bus control" also - still looking into that.
