TriFecta On/Off
Just wrapped up doing the guide job on my "new" 4.6. I have not driven it much since buying it. Currently the tri fecta combo comes and goes randomly. Happens often while car is running and doesn't have to be moving for it to happen. I have scanned it and I get "implausible steering angle sensor". When I check the live data on the SAS it seems to be working fine. There is no rhyme or reason to it turning on and off. Wondering if I should just send the ABS module in for a scan/repair? I have checked everything else. Wheel speed sensors are fine, voltage is fine. Curious what you all think. Thanks

TriFecta On/Off
SAS failure is not uncommon. Your can buy a kit to repair for half the price of replacement.
I've gotten SAS error 2-3x over about six years and I've just dobei the recalibrate routine and it came back to life for another 6-20 months. What you can't see from normal real-time data is are there weak spots where it skips values or jumps. If the resistor had a weak spot and jumps from 60 to 65° that is not possible so the computer will shut down the system |
I was thinking the same as you about the foxwell not being able to see a spike or other problem. I will look into the rebuild kit. Have never taken one off, but have looked into it and doesn't sound like a fun job.

Owch! I recently had my witness marks get erased.

I also replaced the SAS with the kit that was mentioned. Awesome kit but removing the column is a bit tricky but doable. Some hints, When removing the column DO NOT TURN the steering wheel. There is a filament that makes the horn and buttons work on your steering wheel and will break if you turn it. I found it impossible to put my column back in the exact place so I had to get an alignment to make the SW straight again. Also you will need to recode the computer to accept the new straight SW alignment.

So far, the lights/code have not come back. I havn't driven it much but moved around the yard quite a bit. Thinking that since the car sat for some time that the commutator and brushes maybe just needed to self clean. If not, I checked the rebuild kit out and will do that procedure. Thanks for all the tips.

If you rebuild, look at my thread ho to swap the polarity of the brushes as one slip ring gets 4x the wear, and swapping polarity you can just change brushes and not slip rings and nearly double the lifespan of your alternator.
