Help...locked out of vehicle...broken door lock, bad FOB
I have just found myself in quite a predicament. My key Fob has been dead for a long time (only key), and I just tried to unlock the door manually, as I have been, only to have the key spin in the lock. It's obviously not engaging anything, so I guess something broke in the cylinder. I know, I know, it was stupid of me not to get another key made when I had the chance, but I honestly never considered the possibility that this would happen. I'm waiting for a locksmith now, but reading some old threads here is not giving me much hope. Can anyone offer some advice? I'm desperate! It's an 06' X5 4.8is.

The key is programmed to start the engine but you must program the FOB or door lock and unlock feature yourself or have a dealer ship do it.

BMW x5 e53 remote key programming
How to Program a Key to a BMW X5 Enter the BMW X5. Shut the door. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position on the lock cylinder. Move the ignition key to the "OFF" position. Take the key out of the ignition. Press down on the key's "Unlock" button. Press the "Lock" button three separate times within five seconds. Locks should cycle. |
Problem solved! Well, at least the immediate problem. The (second) locksmith was able to get the door open and fix the lock (it was a broken pin), so I did not need to resort to smashing a window. I'll be getting a new remote key made right quick. Thanks everyone who responded!
