Actually, the factory system sounds just like my basic one.
If you still have the old units, check on the back of the CD player to see if it has the 40-pin connector (socket). If so, the mating cable should have been attached and is now down in the back of the dash... |

Photos of the backs of each unit, sorry it took me ages to resize the pics to meet the size restrictions. Hope these pics help.

Hard to tell what unit that is from the pics. If that is the in-dash unit, you shouldn't require an extension harness. If that unit is from the electronics box in the spare tire area then you do.

Yep - same as mine - basic system with speaker wiring to the dash. No extension cable needed.
The large connector that provides power and speaker connections etc. on the back of the CD unit should plug directly into the wiring for the android unit. |
Hmmm, I have plugged-in the large square connector and nothing happened. No power or anything. I will pull the unit out tomorrow and take pics of what is installed.

Well that’s embarrassing. I was about to post that I’d checked both the fuses when installing the unit and they were both fine. Just to make sure, went back to check and both fuses were still fine......there was, however, a third fuse, a 7.5amp fuse in the cargo area, that was blown. Replaced the fuse and the stereo works perfectly. I now have an extension cable in the mail that I don’t need, but I have a working stereo, which was the original plan. So thanks everyone for your help, turns out I’m just a bit useless :dunno:

Now you might want to consider getting an iBus adapter and applivcation, to give you access to the fubction lost by the removal of the MID unit - and more. https://www.ibus-app.de/index_en.html (btw, I have no connection with iBus - I don't even have an android HU!) |

Trust me that soon you'll have some other electrical issue and wish it was that simple!! Don't ask me how I know [emoji1787] Sent from my SM-A730F using Tapatalk |
Good news akwoods. Enjoy the simple fix, LoL, e53's don't always provide such an easy solution.
I second wpoll's recommendation for the ibus app. I use it on my Android head unit and it's usefulness is worth much more than the ~$85 price tag. Retaining obc functionality is just the beginning of is capabilities. |
