Fuel injector cleaning

Hi,

I have some planned maintenance work coming up, I need to do the valve stems seals as well as a whole sealing and hose replacement. Hopefully this all goes well but I've been reading about fuel injector rebuilds, I can't seem to find kits for this. I was wondering if anyone has done this and can give me some recommendations/advice and perhaps their experience with kits they may have used. I have a 06 4.8is with 90K, thank you in advance.

Greg

I have taken fuel injectors out physically and used carb cleaner to cycle through the injector while operating/cycling the solenoid.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by "injector rebuild kits."

I've seen fuel injector rebuild kits that have o-rings, spacers, a small filter and a cap on the fuel delivery side that you can replace when you have the fuel injectors out. Has anyone installed one of these kits and is there a recommended version?

Oh gotcha. If you want to go to that extent, they do have fuel injector refurbishers that flow match ever single injector.

This is the method I've done in the past on mine. I like that I can reverse flow the fuel injector easily. This would help if there are truly any debris captured in the fuel injector screen.

everything you are asking REGARDING INJECTOR CLEANING
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-new-injectors

Cleaning injectors is a simple process with the right tools and process. Replacing outer seals is as simple as any other O ring replacement. The real trick is measuring output, ultrasonic cleaning, replacing all the basket filters and retesting the flow against OE specs and your baseline before cleaning. Like mentioned, if your injectors are clean, (pintles and filters) then a simple gasket replacement is all that is required. In a previous life I sold the testing, cleaning and measuring machines and chemicals. Leaking ones are the most impressive when tested under pressure.

Recommendations: Many buyers of these stand alone cleaning machines will do a set for you for a nominal fee. As it only take 1 hr for a full set. Check on line for Injector cleaning services. Fuel Injector Cleaning, Rebuilding, Matching and Flow Testing Service. Here is one in Charlotte: https://racecityinjector.com/

Note: Can you get injectors cleaned while on the car? Yes, see lots of comments regarding adding chemicals to the tank Techron for example, will keep them clean
There are also pro kits where you disable the fuel pump, block off the fuel lines, then pressurize the rail with a chemical like OTC 7448a cleaner with "Pro Inject-R-Kleen" Fluid.

I've seen the flow measurement system where they test and compare all injectors against eachother. But what do they do to achieve the actual balancing? E.g., to increase (or decrease?) flows as needed so they are all equal? Just curious.

Most shops will measure flow rate at a constant pressure, ultra sound clean, retest and will provide a min +/-5% across the set. Most will flow 2%.
Race set up will give you the same or better but the difference is most controllers will adjust the dwell cycle of the injectors to match cyl to cyl balances. I will let the race engineers explain further.
