Remove Nav head unit and replace with CD/MID?
Hi guys,
I'm thinking about buying a 2006 E53 that has the LCD nav screen. I prefer the look of the dash with the CD player/MID. The car is in great condition and low mileage for a fair price, so I'm wondering whether I could potentially remove the LCD screen and replace it with a CD player with wood trim and MID from eBay. The openings in the dash are definitely the same size....but I'm assuming the wiring is different? Or would there just be a another plug in the harness hanging out back there that I could use. I wonder if the wiring harnesses included plugs for both nav and non-nav cars? Anyone have any experience with this? :p: |
Totally different wiring from navigation to mid basis head unit. You might be able to get by with the android conversion harness to the rear and an coax antenna extension, not sure. I do have a pristine mid and CD player if you really want one.

Got it, so I guess my next question is--is it even possible to swap from a navigation unit to a CD/MID setup? What parts would I need other than the CD player/MID?

You will also need to code out the nav and code in the mid in the ZCS vehicle order or you will have errors in your system. Do you have DSP? |
Ooh ok, so this isn't a quick swap. Let's see if I actually buy this car and then I'll circle back and ask you for some more details on how I could get this done. Thanks for the info, appreciate it.
