Coding in Toronto?
Anyone know who can code our E53’s in Toronto?
I reached out to a few people already who had ad’s, they say they don’t work on the E53.... |

Hey man.
Turn off daytime running lights, turn off corner signal lights that are always on, and turn off seatbelt & key chime . |

I'm unsure about the key chime and seatbelt. I saw this as an option listed but unsure about the coding for that specifically. |
Hey Rocket. I searched for what you mentioned, it came up on Amazon. What do you do next with it, how does this all work. I can’t find anyone to work on my car, so it seems like I got too figure this out on my own.
Any chance we can discuss this together? |
You already have a post like this no need for a second one.
e46, e39 and e53 are all pretty much the same as far as coding goes. You have two options: 1 - Buy the hardware/software like BMW scanner 1.4 or Carly and learn to code it yourself 2 - Install the software yourself on a laptop and try and get someone who knows what they're doing to help you do the rest via remote software like teamviewer. I told you already you can borrow my laptop so it's up to you to find someone and talk them into helping you do the coding. |

Anyway, I got mine on AliExpress for like 5 bucks, amazon I think was like 25. Once you get yours, I think people on the forum can then begin helping you do some coding and adjust your parameters. |
yeah, i didn't realize I had 2 of the same threads. I forgot I had one already going.
this is great info. im going to do some more thinking/research..... i really appreciate u guys trying to get me the right idea here. |
c-bass, thanks for your offer. is the software you have more complicated to use then BMW scanner 1.4.0? seems like this scanner software is made to be more user friendly??
|
BMW scanner 1.4.0 is pretty stinking easy IMHO. Def easier than NCS expert in terms of usability.

This will give you a better explanation than me butchering it and you can decide how user friendly it sounds to you. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ith-NCS-Expert That software you can download for free but you would have to install it on a laptop (Which can be a pain in the ass sometimes) and you would need to get an ODB cable from Amazon to plug into your car. The cable is about $40 in our money. Carly is a bluetooth module you can use with your phone that will read codes and do coding for you. https://www.mycarly.com/plan/?c=CA&b=bmw&n=BMW It's $85 plus shipping HOWEVER you can get a discount code to use from many youtubers like Samcrac that will knock off a good amount of money. There's also the ProTool from Bimmergeeks. Does coding and diagnostics but I don't know much else about it. https://www.bimmergeeks.net/protool Either way you look at it you're going to have to spend some money and I personally would rather end up with a tool than having some dude come by and code things for me (assuming you're paying for the coding service). There's plenty of tutorials and experienced people that can help so I wouldn't be too worried about doing it myself. Also, what you're wanting to do is very light duty coding from my understanding so the odds of you causing catastrophic damage should be minimal as long as you follow the proper steps. |
this is great stuff c-bass! thanks man. im going to look into all this see whats best for me. its nice to know after i get all set up I can come back here for further help....
where in Canada are you located? |
ive had a few people try to code my E53, with no success, the last guy was using bimmergeeks protools and said its not compatible with our truck.

It looks like I didn't scroll down on the page to the part where it says... Coding Support Most Bmw, Mini or Rolls Royce Models EXCEPT older chassis such as E46, E39, E38, E53, E85 and anything older. What a donkey I am  |

I lived in Toronto for a long time and used to pop in a couple times a month but since Doug is trying his hardest to make us all communist I haven't visited in a while. |
So you live in T.O. And can't find someone to code the E53? Gotta be a joke.
If you're searching for someone to work for free I understand, but otherwise there are plenty around this city, I can rhyme off 10 great Indies, + all the dealers but am not doing any advertising. Now, it's possible they're telling you they can't do it, meaning these mods should not be done. So be careful and watch for safety features. Daytime running lights and illuminated side markers, and seat belt chime and dash light are mean to annoy you enough so you put on your seat belt. This is all legal requirement. |
ok so a successful update.
I downloaded and installed BMW Scanner 1.4. Also ordered the reader tool from amazon. https://www.amazon.ca/iSaddle-Scanne.../dp/B008RHJTS2 I then followed this youtube video to install the driver for it to run on newer windows PC's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RonaL-HLKjA Everything worked perfectly. I was able to make all the changes I wanted to do. Im so glad I don't need anyone to do it for me. Only thing I couldn't find using BMW Scanner is where the option for the key-in ignition chime/gong is.... also, some of the modules I cant access. is this because they are not available on the e53, or because I need to open up the reader and connect/soldier some of the connections together like in some tutorials/videos i found online? you know what annoys me Perrier, you.... probably also wears his mask in the car with his side markers. got that extra large rearview mirror too. Typical Canadian, mind your business, bro. the joke is your input on this thread. |

To answer your other inquiry, the gong/chime option is in there too. Should be in the KOMBI. But congratulations on getting it working! |
thanks rocket, ill look into that.
btw, you were right, bmw scanner is so easy to use! once you get it up and running. |

All fun and games until you try to reset the transfer case clutches after a transfer case fluid change. You will come up short with the BMW Scanner 1.4 and INPA.
I have INPA, BMW Scanner 1.4, Foxwell NT-510 and OBD Fusion for my phone. Each of these will provide a function the others will not. You will never have full access without several of these. I am in under $200 for all of them with programming cables and should be in every DIY toolbox for working on our older BMW cars. |

And the same goes for hand tools for these cars - not one set of any tool type will have everything you need. I've bought more tools since owning this car than during the ownership of other cars during the previous 30 years.... |
