I wouldn't trust the Snap-on scanner for a start. DIS 57 is probably your best bet for hard to find problems but it will take some time to set up and learn. INPA will pull all codes with great detail quickly and easily and gives good live data. So you're saying it feels like a transmission issue and there is nothing wrong with the engine ??

Try disconnecting the CB, radar detector, and any other add-ons that might be causing problems.

That's a NEGATOR Bandit!!!

The radio is an insulated Motorola VHF. This issue was around since the day I inherited it. Before as well after any work was done to it.

It's become quite the love/hate relationship.
The engine is the 4.4i N62 & ZF series transmission. There is no dip and the valve body is solinoid controlled.

AC or not, it goes into that limp-mode like situation.

As for the bmw? It's been already cleared by bmw.
I'm looking more at the TCM. I haven't replace it.

The bmw's KM currently sit at 270,000KM.

You're going to replace part after part after part, like I did with my E92. All the while INPA/DIS/ISTA-D pulled codes were telling me it's the DME but I was refusing to accept that because fear of DME costs. In retrospect, I spent more in other parts than the DME itself. I later learned that all I needed to do was recode the DME from scratch. I'm not saying that's you issue, but please get the BMW codes at the very least, as 80stech also points out repeatedly. Even shadow codes would be revealing. In my case with my 335i many times there were no codes thrown but shadow codes historical data pointed to the DME.

So far the only code appearing is
P2195 O2 sensor 1 bank 1
And
(Gong Pitch) ~ No idea.

That's all it's pulling on the big code reader. No trans fail safe prog, no gear box emergency mode. It's baffeling. Replaced today Acceleration Pedal, cleaned MAF and replaced throttle body. Flushed trans with new fluid.

I'm looking more at TCM or DME at this point.

What happens with sport and manual mode ?

DeanoBambinoX2 05-01-2021 02:38 AM

Regardless of being in Sport - Drive - Manual. It retards engine power. I've just finished cleaning the trans Mechatronic plug on the side of the transmission. But? No idea where my TCM is located.
It's a 2005 BMW X5 E53 w/ ZF transmission (No Dip).

Inside the housing on the passenger side under the cowl.
Within the box I only see the VDO VVT pn: 7532878
And Bosch DME 7542300. Both of which are not blue. Nothing in the box resembles a TCM or anything trans control module related.

Any ideas where my TCM would be located? It is a Mechatronic transmission.

Would you recommend I try a reflash or just replace the whole damn thing...

Not sure I'd recommend either without further evidence that this issue is casued by the transmission. :dunno:

Having said that, a re-programme wouldn't hurt anything. I think the transmission would need a full re-adaptation if reprogrammed though (not hard).

No! You've got a point. It feels like a game of cat and mouse. I'm running out of things to replace outside of the engine or trans.
