Foxwell NT510 Elite Question
Hello, I recently purchased a 510 scanner and I just finished transmission fluid and filter service as well as a transfer case oil change on my ‘05 X5 3.0. The scanner worked well to monitor my transmission fluid temperature but after I finished the transfer case, I could not get it to do the adaptation on the transfer case using any of the menus. I had a trouble code, 54C6 VTG Oil wear, and after playing with the scanner, I was able to finally clear that code, but I would still like to do the adaptation on the transfer case. Wondering if any of you use the same scanner and were successful in performing the adaptation for the transfer case. If so, which menu did you use to do that? Also, wondering if it is necessary to update the scanner which I just received last week? This is the only thing I can think of that might possibly help me. Anyone else have the same issue?
Thanks. |
It's there. I reset the TC clutches with my Foxwell NT-510 after I changed the fluid. Just keep browsing.

Foxwell NT510 Elite Question
You have to start in the correct top menu. I think it's the bottom one "service" or similar. Then you have to guess the correct submenu "chassis" most likely.
I replaced TC for a client and first attempt I could not find the function but enough poking around I did find it. Definitively update to latest software, but it should be able to do the reset either way |
Thank you for your replies and hints. I will try again on the weekend and will let you know the outcome.

Well guys I had some spare time and I tried it again. I found the correct menu but when I tried to calibrate the T.C. it always comes up as a function fail. I Found it under Active Test Menu, function check Transfer Box (calibration) bUt every time I try it, I get the message VTG Function Check Fail. I am assuming it doesn’t want to calibrate it because my fault code for oil wear in T.C. always comes back when I go to check it (as soon as i clear it, it comes back). Thinking maybe I should disconnect the battery for a while and check it again. I would prefer to find the module for the Transfer Case and unplug it for some time instead of removing my spare tire to get to the battery. Any Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

That doesn't sound like the correct sub menu. Also, you may have to reset the code first and then reset the oil adaptation
|
Some resets must be done with key on and engine off ,while others are with engine running. It's been so long since I did my TC fluid and reset that I don't recall the menu and key position.

Since my last post I tried playing with the scanner again. Found that if I just have the ignition on (vehicle not running) I can clear the Oil Wear code and the code does not return until I start my vehicle. Starting the vehicle is required for calibration under the VTG Function Check (message: ATTENTION! Gear lever in position ‘P’ and engine idling), however, I get the 54C6 Oil Wear code back and VTG Function Check Fail. Very frustrating. Thanks for trying to help me out.

Did you get any codes before changing oil? (TC)
My customer had some internal TC errors from running oil out of TC. Hail Mary option we changed the oil and reset oil wear but never got the T C operational had to replace it. Now your case with just pull wear DTC you should be able to reset it however one thing to look into is the configuration resistor. I'm not sure what all is tied to that but I know if that goes bad TC will definitely not work properly. |

What are the symptoms of wonky resistor?

Mechanical issues... I could get the TC gear motor to engage with the car off and it clanked loudly and while in park the White Witch would jump forward about 6". Electrical issue... TC wouldn't read but no guarantees it was from that, because that was the same time as the OBD2 block debacle so who knows... Sent from my SM-A730F using Tapatalk |
DIS performs the VTG Oil Wear adaptations with ignition on but engine NOT running... not sure why the Foxwell would be different.
You can't really do this sort of work without either a grunty battery charger or power supply hooked up to the car either. the process take a while and battery voltage could fall too far in tht time... |
