This forum on the other hand is full of good information, some very knowledgeable people and is quite active. Don't bother looking anywhere else, this is your home now :D |

I couldn’t agree more! I found the mirror tilt and mirror fold fixes on here and had to create an account! |
I think the key is the "dual temp". I don't know what brain looks at which, but from your description it actually sounds like an internal intermittent failure.
I did have a fuel pump fail add mentioned after 10-11 months but when wife's failed and the Bosch war doa I bought another Amazon special and that one lasted until we traded in the car on the '12 E70. |
Similar to the mention of finding how to fix the mirror tilt, I found XO when searching to solve a random stall that set a code completely unrelated to the defective part. Somebody on XO had the same problem and discovered in his case was the intake cam sensor.
I bought an OEM German made model and installed in about 90 minutes (serving time on wife's X5 took only 20 because screw routing the wire under the intake!) I also found wife's X5 on xo. Approximately 3 months after getting mine! (Both 01 3.0). Hers was traded in 3 weeks ago for 50i 2012; oh my is that fun to drive! I do follow other BMW forum but xo is where it's at for the X5. |

No that's my spare. I had incorrectly diagnosed a bad level sensor as fuel pump failure. I bought the pump but when I double checked I determined pump was ok just tank was bone dry but reporting 40 miles to empty.
I kept the pump though vs. Return since it was over due. About a year later when pump finally died the Bosch wouldn't run |

Wow that’s a. Interesting issue, now I know that too haha! I only follow e46fanatics, great place for info just like XO! I ordered the parts last night, it’s going to take a while to get them since I’m in Canada :/ cannot wait to fix all these things though. Thanks again to all that contributed!! In my heart of hearts I truly want an F10 5-series, you can actually get an early F10 535i or even a 550i with a 6MT in that generation. sorry to derail the thread |

my X5 "found me". Wasn't on my radar. I had a settlement check from a lawsuit that was to the dollar what my X5 cost including tax and title. It's the perfect car for me so I'm done looking. Mine is '01 with about 196,000 but I bought 6 years ago with 128. It needs a fair amount of suspension work and prob an OFHG (though the leak has almost completely stopped with some AT-205).
Wife's car also 01 e53 starting leaking oil everywhere at once (suspect plugged CCV blew out every possible oil seal) so we traded that one in on '12 X5. I have no interest in learning a new platform and will surely upgrade to e70 when my 01 is done but I feel another 50-60,000 miles are coming out of this one. Engine performance like the day I bought it almost exactly 6 years ago. I have a smidge of performance envy with wife having 50i; wow it's amazing. Strangely other than occasionally wishing for more passing power I'm totally ok with the 3.0i power. (although the first time I took a freeway onramp with my car after doing a few full power on ramps with 50i and 35i, I laughed out loud the whole way up). (I got up to 80 at the end of the 1/4 mile or so which was more than enough, but with wife's car, the DSC kicked in when the car chirped the tires at about 80 about 2/3 the way up the same ramp). Where my car Speedo goes 10-20-30-40 hers goes 20-40-60-80. It's very close to twice as quick to speed. |
