Intermittent Power Steering
Read up on some possible causes of my power steering going heavy from time to time, seems to correct itself once she is turned off and back on again. Makes me think its an electrical issue, opposed to just lubing or replacing the lower column steering double joint, which folks have said has fixed their issue.
No leaks, hoses are good... any thoughts on what would be causing the intermittent nature of the power Steering to cycle like this? |
Possible issue with the servotronic torque converter.

I'm on the same line with EODguy. Check fault codes from GM if there is code for servotronic solenoid. When the solenoid wears it's resistance drops below 7,5 ohm which is the threshold when the code activates and drops servotronic inactive.

You’re telling me it’s a tiny $267 item to make my steering feel like a new car again?!?

I got my whole steering rebuilt for 400 USD over here because I couldn't get the parts myself. Also BMW Middle East makes you give a deposit to look up stock and get estimates of delivery times. [emoji849]

Looking at real oem it shows no option for a rack without the servotronic. Do all of the e53's utilize this? Is this used for the speed sensitive steering or is it just measuring the pressure of the fluid? I am fairly certain I do NOT have speed sensitive steering.
I just replaced the p/s pump and I have a similar feel to the steering as the OP. |
