Jet fuel purchase...

Ok, we can't run jet fuel. However, turning on the X5s sure sounds like it. Are the pumps serviceable? What causes all the noise? Are bearings or motor brushes bad? What do ya'll recommend? My X5 has made the high speed jet noise since the first time I inspected it. Fixing the issue is next on my list. The new lower front bushings fixed hard braking steering vibrations. The left side bushing was cracked in several places.

If your X5 sounds like a jet for 90-120 seconds on cold start it's the secondary air pump bearings failing.

I saw a YouTube video how to replace the bearings since the part is unholy expensive.

I replaced my wife's with SAP from a 7 series which was gifted to me. Needed a couple mods to get it to fit but if you can get a used one from 5/7 series cheap I wrote on xo how to tweak it to Fit.

Wife's lasted months before it finally failed. You could unplug until you get the part but unsure other than more polluting, will that cause damage to cats.

Interesting timing with this thread. I was just getting ready to figure a way to run nitromethane in my X5.

You can if your X has a diesel engine.

That's cool. I knew turbine can run on diesel didn't know the other way worked. m1a1 power pack is said to be able to run on anything liquid that burns

Jet A should run fine in a diesel but lacks some lubrication needed for the injection system

I don’t have a diesel, so I am thinking of running nitromethane. I will fog it from my secondary injection system.

The formula I have now is, 1 ounce of CH3NO2, 7 ounces of CH3OH, and 8 ounces of H2O.

The air pump is an electric motor. If its housing can be taken apart, it may serviceable. If parts are available or fixable, it may worth taking it part. How difficult is it to take apart? I'll know when it fails because the "jet engine" noise will stop. Mine seems to have a new filter and hose. The pump looks original. It vibrates a lot during its start up run. A cold morning start is really loud.

Happy,
The nitromethane is interesting. I'll have to ponder the chemical reactions.

That was exactly my thought. Will it mix, without separating?

Thank you for the interest.

It's not meant to be serviceable. I couldn't figure out how to pull the impellers off non destructively but I did see a YouTube video on the procedure and if I didn't have a spare I would have taken the time.
