Center console and dash removal pictorial

Good work, I'm sure that it'll help many in the future. But, right now, I have a question: there's an orange coil of wire in the right side floor, coming from the dash, then going to the rear of the console...what does it control?
I may have pierced it, accidentally, with a screw. So far, I haven't seen any I'll effects from it, but it might be something I haven't yet tested.

Are you saying you have the same coil of same wire??
I thought it was 100% aftermarket, added by the owner.
It goes to the connector of the airbag module.
I thought someone had a wiring problem and added this wire. This can't be factory setup, can it?

You say it goes to the airbag module? Coincidentally, I have the right side airbag warning light on. But it was already on before I put the screw in. I presume I should eventually look under the carpet by unbolting the seat, slitting the carpet under it (carefully), and seeing if I pierced or severed another wire that may (or may not) be another mystery wire.

You have not pierced anything. If you haven't looked under the carpet, most likely you will not have anything there. Don't cut your carpet, this is not the way to test if.

The wires under the white plastic protector you see in my pictures.
For your airbag module, get INPA or bmwscanner 1.4 and scan for errors. Try deleting and resetting the airbag errors and see what happens.

Alright, I guess there's nothing there to pierce.

As for the airbag module, will my Foxwell NT510 Elite scan tool be able to fix it?...INPA and BMW Scanner v1. 4.0 are on my wish list for the future, as is another laptop to run the programs on (my old Toshiba Satellite L955-S5362 6gb lost its' screen, and Best Buy wanted $700 to fix...so I built a 16gb PC instead, for slightly more).

Use your PC for INPA and bmwscsnner with a long USB cord. I've done it, it sucks but I've done it before I bought a laptop. Not sure about Foxwell, possibly it could do it but I've never used it. You'll have to do some googling :)
