[SOLVED] INPA / EDIABAS ......failing to connect

***SOLVED***

In summary, I got the following 3 issues come up......after resolving one, I got the next:

IFH0018 -
COM Port - Made COM1 the port in Device Manager and confirmed it was the same in the OBD file.
Latency - Confirmed it had been set to 1 in Device Manager
OBD.ini File - Confirm Port matches above COM1, updated Hardware=USB

IFH0003 - fixed with replaced cable

IFH009 - needed to flick the switch on the cable (pre/post 2006)

Hi,

I have spent a few days looking over the forums and trying all different settings to get my INPA connecting, so I can reset the steering angle sensor. I have a K+DCAN USB Interface (INPA Compatible), but can't seem to get the ignition showing to on and get the below error. I tried a full re-install and followed all of the steps, but am assuming I still have something not quite right in my EDIABAS.ini file. I have also bridged the 7/8 pin on the cable

Please help!

Thanks in advance
Michael

It's a rudimentary software so doesn't have the smarts (API) for COM port settings other than the default COM1 in the old days. Therefore the COM port needs to be set to COM1. So, launch Control Panel->Device Manager->Port(COM & LPT)->USB Serial Device (COM7)->Properties->Port Settings->Advanced settings.

Change it to COM1 in the drop down list of COM Port Number as shown in the pic (COM1 in your case). The OBD.ini should automatically pick up the new COM port value you just set, but, in any case, just verify that it now shows "Port=Com1".

Your EDIABAS.INI settings look good to me.

michaelf 07-31-2021 03:33 AM

Thanks - will try that tomorrow. I thought if they matched it didn’t matter. Ie. in device settings and obd.ini

Unfortunately it still isn't working, although now I am getting the IHF 0003 Error. The key is set to ignition, the cable light is illuminated when first plugged in, flashes and then goes off before I run INPA.

Hopefully I am almost there as this is very frustrating....thanks for your help!

Cheers
Michael

It appears the issue is in your OBD.INI or your INPA OBD2 interface itself. I've had several of those interfaces and I've never had to modify them in any way- some were chepo off ebay. The first interface light stays a steady green when connected to the vehicle's OBD2 port. Another light flashes red when INPA talks to the vehicle. I'm running Windows10 with the latest updates on Surface Pro and INPA etc apps have no issues at all. Here's what my OBD.INI looks like (note the highlighted):

Thanks - I am getting closer. Updated the OBD.ini to be Hardware=USB as per your file and now I am at least getting it registering that the ignition and battery are On

Error is IFH003. I modified the cable as read that it was needed for pre 2006 vehicles.....making it back to what it was didn't change my error.

I guess last option is buying another cable. It seems like some of the ones now have the switch on them out of the box.

Cheers

michaelf 08-01-2021 03:10 AM

Will try this cable I think.....https://obd2australia.com.au/product...e-with-switch/

Yep. The downside of being on an island down here. Even straight from China on AliExpress seems to only save me a little….and with delays.

You should see the prices of everything else here….we do get screwed. Economies of scale against us.

michaelf 08-10-2021 05:45 AM

All sorted. New cable. Com1 set and latency set. Had issues, but was a 009 error…..flicking the switch on the cable resolved.

Now to keep digging as the steering angle sensor was set fine, even though the BMW Scanner said it wasn’t. Now getting a steering angle sensor air gap excessive - new thread soon I guess.

Cheers
