What exactly is the purpose of the x-pipe? Any advantages over straight pipe?

sound

I had 2.5" straight pipe put in mine. The main difference between the X-pipe and the striaght pipe is that the former evens out the exhaust note, elminates the "pops and burbles" when decelerating. I personally like them.

I used the 2.25" X-Pipe on my 4.4 - not sure if you need to go up a size for the 4.8 or not. The X-Pipe also offers a big of needed back pressure over what a straight pipe would give you, and as ekaz says, I think it helps smooth it out a bit too.

BTW - I CAN hear just a very slight bit of popping and burbling, but only when the engine is cold and when I decelerating from about 30mph. It is very slight and most people probably wouldn't even notice. I actually like that sound and wish it did it just a bit more!

Nice little mod - go for it!

Did you mean to say "the former"? Do you get a few pops and burbles with your straight pipes? I suspect they're a bit louder than the X-Pipe as well, but don't have access to your X to compare!

no ther is no pops and burbles with the striaght pipe .
i think the x-pipe its better with the sound and the back pressure i have some experience wiht mi m5
