And in my case, an antique store, a junkyard, recycling center, and the list goes on (it was semi-orderly for 24 years, then the wife's stuff took over).

A basement (actually a tornado shelter) was considered, but since my property is atop a sandhill, it would've had to be really anchored in place, to keep from rising with the water table, after soaking rain periods. In May '15, we had so much rain that the septic tanks started to rise.... If I were to build one, it'd have to be an above-ground bunker, not a basement.

Living semi-rural, I do have space to park my stuff behind the house, mostly out-of-sight from the street (no alley, either), so secure storage isn't a real problem. My wife's three sheds and garage aren't locked, but the vehicles are.

Oak trees abound, giving shade (and green pollen and leaf debris), but also furnish lots of bird and squirrel droppings on all cars underneath. Not perfect. Branches (and two complete trees) fall too, and I've had several fall blocking the driveway or near a car. One did hit the old K-car, and cracked the windshield.

Aside from being open to the weather, the vehicles sit on sand, gravel, and leaves year-round, with no solid surface to be worked on underneath. I've used treated 3/4" plywood for years between the single bay door (behind which is my 4x8 camping trailer) and my big truck (2500HD, primarily used for hauling my trailers), so I can hook it up and go more easily.

And recently, I made a dedicated workspace for the smaller vehicles in front of the middle bay, with two sheets of ply, with Rhino Ramps attached. When and if the plywood prices fall a bit, I'll get several more sheets to expand the workspace, and more for the X5's chosen spot.
