Yikes no remote did not know that. My quality gripe is that with seams it's not water tight like the seamless diamond key

Correct - it has a pop-off rear cover with a standard CR-series button cell - certainly not waterproof but then, with no remote, it doesn't need to be. ;)

*edit* I've not opened it up but I'm assuming the EWS chip/antenna is the fully encapsulated type and IS waterproof. :dunno:

Mrs. OB sent our key through the washing machine once. No damage. :dunno:

The diamond key has no seam. It's waterproof to prob at least 30m. Over that it'll prob press all the buttons.

But it's rather useless, since it has no remote functions. I have not used it in over six years of ownership...

Replacement Key; Online dealer

Hot dog! Ordered Thursday arrived Monday!

It took about 4 tries to sync the key doing from memory but I got it without having to resort to Google.

Feels very weird having the doors unlock from a distance.

Had a very weird thing happen. When I first tried the new valet key it did not start. I had to pull the key out and try a second time and it worked.

Great, Andrew! Thanks for reporting back. Even old-fashioned remote unlocking is better than old-old-fashioned using the lock.

One of my original keys is still working after almost 18 years. The other died quite a while back. It went through the wash, which might have been the cause, or it could be I just didn't use it enough.

It worked in the ignition no problem to start the car? Does it identify it as another unique key?

Yes second try the valet key worked as expected. I haven't looked in the scanner to see what #s the two new keys are but they will surely have a new unique number.

Almost always the problem is solder joints breaking. My car was 14 when I bought it and within a year both keys had solder joint failure.

I reflowed the solder and both worked again for a couple years before I lost one and the other stopped working.

I didn't want to risk killing my only key so I haven't reflowed the solder yet I've been waiting to get a new key. Now that I have i can reflow my old key.

I had indications that the car side electronics could be at fault so another reason I waited to get a new key. Praise Jesus the key worked meaning car side is working!
