subframe rust
 

I finally found a nice Oxford green E53 however the underside has what I think is quite a bit of rust. I have always lived on the west coast where this isn't really an issue so I am not sure if its truly bad or not. What do you guys think?

With pics it's hard to tell without actually taking a pic hammer to it. To see if it has holes or not.

That looks like a typical Midwest vehicle.
I'd take a close look behind the rear wheels to see if there is any sheet metal rust.
There are a number of rust encapsulating products that can make that look prettier and even slow down some rust. Did you do a carfax to see where the car came from?

What ive painfully learned about rust its not just what you can see thats the issue its also what you cant see too.

That pic is poor at best, you need some hands and eyes on under that truck. If thats the only pic being sent then I'd walk but thats me

I'm not impressed with the surface condition of the sway bar bracket. I think you're going to find a lot of underside fasteners with significant rust and corrosion on their threads.

I can't tell much from the picture but :iagree:. The big stuff is usually too thick for rust to be a problem. Nothing like breaking off a bolt or removing a seized nut or bushing to turn a 1 hour job into a frustrating very long day or more.

thank you all for your input. I decided to pass on it. Another nice Oxford green E53 came up in Michigan of course and it also has a bit of rust. If you guys know nay clean Oxford green E53's for sale or anyone that would sell let me know. (must have cold weather package)

If you're looking for a rust free example then don't bother looking anywhere there's snow (or at least where the roads are salted).

They're all going to have some kind of rust and it's hard to tell from pictures if it's surface rust or something deeper than that.
