Beltlock Bypass

Is there a way to bypass the beltlock on the front passenger seat so that the car thinks that it is always locked ?

The seat occupancy mat in the in the front passenger seat has gone bad,I put a bypassplug there that simulates an occupied passenger seat.

Now, of course the Belt Warning for the passenger seat alarms.

Under the seat there are 2 wires coming from the lock:
Cutting the wire doesn't work.
Connecting the 2 wires doesn't do the job either, so it's not just a simple switch in there.

As well I tested a 3 Ohm resistor connected to the wires

In all these testcases the Airbag-light came on.

Any known solutions to solve my problem from you guys?

Cheers, Dave

Would a junkyard belt buckle work - just the male part ?

My E53's passenger airbag light is on, and won't go out even with my wife in the seat. I had already tried using a male seatbelt clip/insert substitute, that I had bought to use on my HHR Panel (the passenger seatbelt warning sometimes comes on, if unoccupied, and I usually used the seatbelt itself to override it...prior to using this device).

It didn't work on the BMW, but did on the HHR. So, I guess that my X5 airbag light is being triggered by the sensor mat? My X5 never sounds any sort of alarms, even if the clown nose alarm is going off, so I can't tell if the airbag warning is a separate problem, or if the seatbelt warning should be sounding, too. A previous owner removed the MID, radio, amplifier, etc., so I don't know if it's capable of sounding off.

No, this is not the problem I'm talking about.

The BMW software can code out the seat belt warning

Can you help us understand?

You put a bypass plug that makes the passenger seat mat think it is occupied.

Now the seat belt alarm chimes.

So, if the car thinks the seat is occupied and the seat belt is plugged in, the seat belt alarm should not chime.

What am I missing?

Yes, that's right.

Problem is that I don't want to plug in the seatbelt on the empty passenger seat just to avoid the belt alarm chime.

That's why I am looking for a way to make the car "think" the passenger seatbelt is plugged in.

Just change the seat occupancy mat.

I actually started this thread to avoid to do this P.I.T.A. job...

Please understand, I am just looking for a way to bypass the seatbelt lock so that the car "thinks" it's always locked.
There must be a way to simulate this with the 2 wires coming from the seatbeltlock.

And by the way I tried to code it out with INPA but I was not able to write down the new coded files to the airbag control unit.

Seat belt warning parameter is on instrument cluster.
