Favorite 18" tires today?

Once I'm done refreshing the suspension on the new-to-me 3.0i, it's going to need tires.

What are people currently liking in 18"?

My likely inclination is to go with the Continental DWS06+, but I'm also considering the Continental LX25.

I have actual X5 experience with the old Conti DWS and Michelin Premier LTX. The Contis were pretty good. I didn't love the Premiers.

I should also note (see my signature) that there is no chance that the X5 will ever fill any kind of sporty role in our household, so we're more talking about meeting minimums here. I'll trade handling sharpness for meaningful gains in ride comfort and road noise. This probably suggests that I should go with the LX25...

I have had a lot of success running Contis on my Audi S6 / 18” tires and that car uses every bit of it’s 186 mph rating on those tires :-). If Costco would still carry Continentals, I would have installed those on my SUVs too.

Yeah… The problem with costco is that would send me back to the Michelin Premier that I don’t particularly like.

I have a set of DWS06+ and I'm quite happy with them.

Even better is I can find them local on sale %25 off at least once a year at Canadian Tire.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again

When I needed some tires on a new to me X5 I had already driven about 30k on tires that came installed on another used X5 which looked the same as the day I got the car. When they went on sale at Costco they were $973 for the set out the door for 255/55 R18's. They have excellent service to go with the set including hazard warranty, mileage warranty, no charge rotation and nitro fill. At my local store there is an outside air fill pump that pumps nitro. In my opinion they are very good which is why I stuck with the same tire I had. Quiet and handle fantastic. The old set went on the new to me X5. Just my .02c.

...did you want to say what tires you bought from Costco?

You read my mindless mind.

Been running Sumitomos on mine for quite awhile now. They're a good all season tire.

DWS06+ is my go to for anything daily driven, I tried the Pilot Sport AS (3/4) on my e90 and they are great but get a little sketchy at speed in the wet, a condition that the DWSs handle much better.

The sunny day cars get ExtremeContract Sports. I've tried many of the top brands in all flavors of UHP tires and for the money the Contis can't be beat.

If I was dressing a Porsche or some Italian feet I'd probably spend on the PSSs but as I am not that fancy yet the Contis do the job very swimmingly.

I'm still waiting for durability data on the PS4S. The PSS was a real problem for me. 12 months in, they'd start getting hard. By 24 months, trash. By 4 years, ancient DWSes have more traction. You've got to use them up in a year to enjoy them.

I generally like the DWS (although the sidewalls are too soft for performance cars, unlike the PS A/S). I'm just wondering if the LX25 would be a better match for a floppy X5.
