Dreaded P1419 Code

Well, nearly a year before seeing that shiny SES light on the dash but nothing lasts forever I guess. Today popped up a P1419 code for the SAP system.

I took the engine bay DME/EGS cover off and bypassed the salmon relay and the SAP pump works just fine. Nice and quiet and pulling air past the MAF2. I took the SAP valve off the cylinder head and cleaned it really good with brake cleaner but honestly, it was pretty clean. A little soot on the head side but still a great opening and the SAP pump side was very clean. Not expecting that to be my issue.

Not much I can do until the morning to see if the pump runs at start-up but I think I am down to either the SAP relay is faulty or the MAF2 has failed. Both are not that old, maybe 5 years.

Any suggestions guys? :dunno:

You can politely ask the car to run the pump to verify the system is operational with the foxwell. That way no waiting for it to cool off.

I tried going into service and Secondary Air Pump system. I didn't really give me a choice to drive the pump, only to check the SAP system. Did I miss something?

Yep you went down the wrong path.

Control > Drive > Engine > Active test > Relay SAP.

Very few things are in service like set idle speed.

Thanks! I went out this morning and ran the test with the Foxwell. Works perfectly. Maybe the MAF2 is failing? I guess I'll try some MAF cleaner first.

Or the valve not opening ?

*UPDATE*

After going through several checks on the pump and relay, it came down to the SAP valve at the cylinder head not opening or the SAP MAF itself. Luckily, I had a known working SAP MAF in my parts stash and swapped it out. 2 days now and no shining SES light staring back at me.

The first day of checking and cleaning valves and operation, the light was back on the next day. Hoping this has been solved with a bad SAP MAF. Fingers crossed, so far so good.
