Another Lockout thread
I've read and tried all of the methods posted on the site. I did get an inflatable bladder and have the LockOut handles arriving on Wednesday. If that fails, time to bring out the hammer and smash out a window.
It's implied in multiple threads that there is some top secret method for getting in the car that can be PM'd. If someone would be so kind to PM this info, I would appreciate it. I'd hate (actually, hate's the wrong word . I might actually enjoy it..) to bash a window if I really didn't need to. |
If your central lock is working and you have battery power, pressing the central lock button will remove the double lock but not the primary lock, so you have to pull a door handle as well.
The brute Force method is to cut or drill out the screw that holds the lock cylinder. Implication is your lock cylinder is broken so you can't use the key blade (or some how you don't have the key or it's inosee the car). Zero need to break a window. If you need to cut/drill PM for specific directions where to do so. |
Thank you sir.
I did find a drill out post with pictures. It's an 200K e53 with all of the traditional e53 problems. Perhaps subconsciously, I want to smash it  |
I hope you don't mean drill out the key. Drill out the bolt that holds the cylinder in place you can prob get that part for $5 from junk yard.
|
Nope. I believe there is a single screw to the right of the key thingy.
Drill that out and pull the lock mechanism out. From there I should be able to unlock it with a screwdriver. |
That's correct. You can also cut the screw by cutting through the rubber gasket just put thick tape on the door to prevent scratching.
It's $10 to fix the door cylinder with a kit from Amazon. I keep a spare in my glove box |
Thanks again.
You've been a great help on a lot of repairs I've had to do on the beast. Even though I primarily lurk, the information you and others provide is invaluable. |
Thanks. Knowing it helps is the motivation so it's good to get feedback occasionally.
I also like solving problems and especially fix vs. replacing things. |
Got in without issue. Pretty simple actually. Thanks for encouraging me to not bash in the window!
Several lock cylinders are on order! On to my next project...CV Boots! |

I've been using the key in the door handle recently because of issues with the remote unlocking. Reading this forum made me realize I was living on borrowed time WRT the locking mechanism, so I ordered a kit off AMZN and replaced the pieces today before I got locked out.
Damn good thing I did! The piece that usually breaks was well on its way to totally fragmenting (see pic). On the downside, the base plate that came with the kit did not fit so I had to reuse the old one. If anyone knows which kit is the absolute highest quality, with long-lasting parts (nice if they made one with titanium parts), please post. This is the kit I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
