Knocking from front

Hi all.

Had a knocking from the front when hitting bumps.
Started on the left then went to both sides.
Had it up on stands and found the lower arm ball joint's
were gone.
every thing else looked and felt tight.
changed the ball joints and cv gators while i was there.
Took it for a run and the same noises are still there
even over the slightest pot hole.
Its not the top mounts as the noise is down low.

Thank you all in advance.

Sway-bar links? Wrap them in electrical tape and go for a drive. The tape won't last long but if the knocking is gone while the tape lasts, you have a smoking gun...

Thanks for that.
will try that in the morning

Thrust arm bushings?

Clunk on wheels compressing over a speed bump is short control arm.

Clunk on wheels extending off a speed bump (or into a hole) is the long control arm.

Speed bumps are best for testing your suspension when you use enough speed to not bounce upwards but must also "fall" off the other side quickly without making it seem like ablow rider display.
So don't just ease over it slowly.

Following. Ours is doing the same thing. It's so loud it sounds like something is tapping on the frame.

That's what it's like sounds like,Sound's like a drummer with two hammers.

The tape trick did not work.
Going to disconnect the links and take it
for a drive.

I had a clunk in the front end ,r&r front struts ,clunk is gone. I found my strut noise by getting someone to turn the steering wheel, with the X5 stationary, and I could here a slight noise in the right strut. So I change them both out.the X5 is nice and quiet now.

every thing is tight under the front.
Not the links as i drove with them off.
I have noticed that the noises stop when i go around a bend
left or right.
The noise has got worse since i first posted

Has the struts ever been replaced?

I had the same exact sound. Sounded like a hammer on the subframe over small bumps. I just replaced the smaller lower control arms ($40/each on FCP) and I haven't heard the noise since. I've only put about 100 miles on it, but normally I would have heard it several times by now.
