bmw x5 e53 3.0 hood issues
 

Okay so first the handle to open the hood stopped opening the hood. I opened the splashguard on driver side and was able to yank the cable and open it. I got a replacement interior hood release cable and installed it. It didn't fix the issue. While it has been broken, I draped the second cable out of the hood and have been yanking it to pop the hood in the meantime. I dont understand why it hasn't been fixed, the locks work fine, and all cables are situated in the right spots.

The cable between the 2 locks is most likely to be giving problems. Take each lock out, lube it and make sure it's working properly.
Haha, I really should have said take BOTH locks out, the intermediate cable and the one leading to the main one, put it all on the bench and go from there. You might just have to shorten the jacket on the intermediate cable.

Okay the jackets on the two cables I mentioned are pretty fried, any way to repair them? And how would I go about accessing the locks, I messed with one and I kinda destroyed the feeder, not opening smoothly anymore.

And where can I aquire a whole new set if needed

I think it's only 2 or 3 screws from the top holding each latch(or lock) in place. I don't remember exactly what I did with mine other than lube, bending/adjusting, and I had to shorten the intermediate cable housing(side cutters) and all was good. No parts needed but I remember thinking that I if anything I should get an intermediate cable. All the parts are not at all expensive if you need to replace.

Had a similar situation. In my case, the plastic guides for the cable (in the latches) cracked, and caused issues. The solution is to replace both hood latches. Alternatively, swap latches. I was pretty upset after ripping one cable and then ripping the replacement. Needless to say, the problem was solved.

Ours did this. After I got it open I sprayed the latch mechanism and little knob that goes into the latch and it's been good ever since.

Not sure of the inner diameter, but I wonder if bicycle cable housing would work? Specifically housing for cable actuated brakes? I don't have a micrometer, otherwise I would go out and mic it for ya. Worth a look? :dunno:

I recently replaced mine. The two cables under the hood go bad. The metal casing rusts and collapse and you loose the cable length and the hood latch can't move the cable. Replace both under the hood that attached to the latches.
