Rear head airbag

Hello everyone!

First post!

So here's the deal: Some time ago I bought a 2005 e53 3.0D with ~217k miles.
It's got relatively good service history, but it needs some love.

It apparently had a slight collision or smth, so the left rear door was painted. Car frame itself was not damaged, but the rear head airbag had gone off. In order for me to pass inspection this month, I need to deal with the airbag light in my dash.

I took the headliner slightly apart just so see what I'm dealing with and the previous owner or the workshop just shoved the airbag back in and called it quits.

Could someone help me with the following?
1. If I was going to buy a replacement airbag, plugged it in and cleared the code, will the light stay off or is there something else to it?
2. If I unplug the current airbag, deactivate it with NCS Expert or something else and clear the code, will it stay off as well? - I tried just clearing the code, the light in the dash disappears for a second and comes right back, which is correct, as it understands that it's plugged in and has gone off already.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Best regards
Arthur

I think some cars don’t have that air bag. You should be able to code out.

Yeah, well I read somewhere, that if I try to code it out while it's still plugged in, the warning light might not go out, so I wanted to get some confirmation here first.

Somebody recently did with seat pad or seatbelt tensioner and I think he found as you are thinking the coding must match. Eg had to unplug if coded out. You might find that thread else any luck that guy will see this one.

Alright, a little update.
It took me a few hours to disassemble/reassemble some parts of the headliner to find that the rear head airbag has already been unplugged. I deactivated the airbag with NCS Expert, cleared the code with INPA and the light went off and hasn't come back since, yay.
