The short answer is to check the tire specs on TireRack. They will list the acceptable rim width for a given tire. You can generally go a little bit outside of that if you really want to and can find a tire shop willing to do it.
That said, a 255 should fit on a 10" wheel. It's definitely going to be a little weird looking, though. |
