It's a common theme of how to take out e53 :-)

the smoke is an indication you have someting not right in the combustion, whether it's oil or a rich mixture. valve seals have been done so in theory that should be eliminated, otherwise I'd point in that direction

Well, definitely not something wrong WITH combustion. Fuel issues will show as black or grey smoke. This is definitely blue smoke. I’m really starting to believe I should be looking for a vacuum leak somewhere. That whole spiel I posted earlier is making sense for me.

aye probably not worded correct, but something is passing through your combustion chamber. That something would be oil most likely :D

Did you end up rebuilding the DME to fix the issue? I’ve been having the exact same two codes for my 2005 X5 4.8is. On my Carly scanner it was 2F80 engine shut down time plausibility. But On an obd2 scanner it was code P1515. I’ve replaced my alternator, checked fuses, cleaned MAF, and have had the issue for about 5 months with no luck on a fix

looks like I am not the only one trying to figure out this P1515 code as well... When I run the foxwell, I get a 2B70, 2B71 and 2B72 dtc code that leads to something indicating "plausibility" and a bmw tech indicated I needed a new DISA aka Drive unit located at the back on the intake...

the P1515 code all over the BMW forums points to TPS/TB and was recently advised from someone on here to clean the TB thoroughly, clear code and run car...

so for now, a TB clean, although may or may not fix my issue, will not cost me much and shouldn't hurt.

my 4.8is currently drives fine to me.

anyone have better luck?

bit of backstory - I did swap out a dead battery to a AGM duralast from autozone and the code did pop up shortly after. I was able to clear it one time, and it didn't come back for a couple of days.. now I clear it and it pops right back up.

prior to installing the new battery, she was jumped correctly but she did idle surge a few times before the battery completely gave out.

4.8iS Doesn't See a DME

Having some new, possibly unrelated issues, so starting a new post.
