M54 stalling at low speeds

Very intermittent issue right now, but its not safe.

3.0i with 186k miles.

Car randomly stalls at low speeds. Happened yesterday when turning into my driveway, foot off the gas, coasting. Also happened once or twice when turning, again, foot off the gas coasting.

I feel like my gas mileage is still now perfect. But I did have the CCV system replaced in November, so not getting any more lean codes, misfires and have no codes or errors in the car. I checked yesterday.

The MAF is original. I have a replacement coming today from FCP Euro, so will swap that in, but am not sure that is my issue (but time to replace anyway).

Fuel pump and fuel filter are original. Probably time for new fuel filter. Plugs are new, coil packs are new.

Thanks as always to the random kindness of XOutpost users and the great friendly BMW owners here.

you are definitely due for a fuel filter...a fuel pump wouldn't be bad idea either.

Rather than throw parts at it, you could get a tester and test fuel pressure at the shrader valve on the fuel rail..measure it at idle and if you can rig it up outside hood, while driving ?

A major vacuum leak could also cause stalling.

I wonder if a dirty idle speed control valve could also be a factor...Any codes?

Cam position sensor? This is a known issue with M54 and the low speed stall....

I ordered both cam sensors. my orig post should have said gas mileage is NOT perfect. it's probably about 16mpg, should be closer to 20.

A Vacuum leak would cause a lean condition which would trigger the DME to add fuel...

yes, all my lean codes are gone after replacing the full CCV kit. vac plugs were all in tact. I'll smoke her out again when it warms up here. meanwhile, will replace the MAG and the cam sensors. Cheap and easy enough. I want to get at least 5 more years, I hope. Exterior and interior are still decent, car drives great...

I had this same exact problem. On an overrun coming off the highway, my engine would stall at the stop light.

I just cleaned my IAC valve, and this totally helped. ALSO, I upgraded my DISA valve with the o-ring.
