two codes, two questions

I'm oddly happy to be dealing with two garden variety codes on my X5, and to be (hopefully) done with the big drama for a while.

My Foxwell for some reason doesn't poop out BMW or P codes, or I don't know how to convince it to. Therefore I dig into my Bentley book and match the foxwell verbiage to the BMW and P codes in the book.

1) Airbag light with a Foxwell code "6 MRS Side Airbag Front Right". Likely a G14 or G15 code. The code wouldn't reset with the foxwell (i.e. it failed to reset) so either I need to pull the battery neg. to get it to reset, or it is designed not to reset given it is a safety feature? My questions here are, are there any troubleshooting hoops to jump through before pulling the door panel and replacing the airbag module, how does one troubleshoot the actual airbag unit, and assuming that it is bad, should I buy a new bag ($300) or are Ebay pieces reliable for airbags in folks experience.

2) Foxwell code 7C, which I think translates to a P0112/0113 or a BMW 124 code: Intake air temperature sensor... I can't find a specific sensor in the intake track, nor do I remember one anywhere in the car when I had it in pieces, so I assume this is part of the mass airflow sensor and a MAS replacement will be required if it comes back (reset OK). The MAS is 20 years old, so it may be time! I've read that an OEM part (Bosch, I think) is best for this piece?

The car is running fine, so maybe it was just a spurious code and won't come back.

has anyone compiled a Foxwell-to-"P code" cross-reference list

I have the same problem, trying to decode the Foxwell-speak into P-codes that I'm familiar with. I don't have a Bentley, or any other BMW-specific diagnostics to use, so there are some codes I don't know what they are (I have 2 KOMBI codes that I don't understand, so I just ignore them). I've searched for a comparative list, so I can understand the Foxwell better, but haven't found one.

I have my old MAF which I replaced but made no difference so should be a perfect tester for swap/test. PM.

7C hex = 124 decimal.

Airbag codes can be reset with foxwell so there likely is a reason it won't reset like Ω mismatch on the detonator.

I had a couple kombi errors but my door chime didn't work and the dashboard knew it one other I can't remember.

The 6 cylinders do have an intake air temp sensor in the intake manifold.

Sorry, forgot to add that I have the 4.6 M62 in my X. I can't find this specific sensor on RealOEM.

I just grabbed a new Bosch MAF for $130ish on Amazon, as I've been meaning to replace my 20 year old MAF as a preventative measure, and to see if I can get some incrementally better MPG out of the car.

Yes, the Bentley shows the V-8s as having the air temp sensor in the MAF.

Try unplugging battery and shorting the pos/neg cables together then reinstall the battery. Airbag codes are bitches since someone may have unplugged the airbag with the battery connected causing a "permanent" screw you fault. Once battery is back in run a full scan then clear and repeat ONCE if needed, if this fail an emulator is the next step.

PS. P codes are generic si don't get too hung up on looking for the p code equivalent.....

Will give that a try. I've had those door cards off so many times in the past year or two but always disconnected the neg terminal from the battery before hand. In the event that it doesn't work, what is the proper resistance of an airbag that is working? I'm assuming a failed one will have ohms that are out of whack?

I think it depends on the exact bag but between 2 and 6 Ω from what I've read.

When wife's e53 had internal airbag error it was inside the module so good luck. Lucky for me it was not an error that set off the air bag light
