2001 blower motor inop
So I have been working off and on with my kids x5, he gave up on it and parked it last fall due to no heat cause no blower.
We replaced the blower motor (removed dash and such) replaced final stage (fcp euro) works good in another x5 just to test it. here is the problem. when you turn the heat or ac on there is no main fan. the fan in the center console works that blows out rear of center console. I have battery voltage at the large wire going into the final stage, the brown wire shows good ground. the red and green and black and green wires got to the new motor. the small wire shows no voltage no matter what the climate control is set to. I used a power probe and put voltage to new fan and nothing. I do not have much faith in this new fan as it was a cheap ebay fan the kid bought. my question is, I have no voltage at the small wire to activate the FSU and thus the Fan. What should I see there? Also the IHKA head unit seems to power the center console FSU and fan which works just fine. All the wiring diagrams I find are for blower control without rear compartment blower. I am thinking the IHKA is faulty, and now after sitting for a winter the fan may also be. any help here. thanks |
There's a tip on how to direct drive the fan though the hedgehog connector. Find that info and jumper it.
There's a way to replace the blower through the center vents I've been told so if you have to re replace it prepare for that possibility. Also: I have a spare of that blower I bought when I thought wife's blower went out but it turned out to be FSU was overheating. |
Blower motor is easy to test by shorting the ground and voltage on FSR connector. Though sounds strange if there's no voltage on activation line from IHKA when blower is set to high power. It should be near 9 V (RMS).

From a good buddy who knows somebody that's done the swap a few times on E39. The e53 has a ton of crossover parts so very good chance it will work.

The secret has been discovered for a no dash (E36 no wiper and other parts) removal! A Chinese unit with removable cages! The OEM cages are snipped off. On a new unit, cages are put back once it’s under the dash. I have yet find info on an E53 having one done this way. Always a first time!
