"Shadow" error code question
Why do some "shadow" codes erasable and others are not? I have a driver's side airbag "shadow" code that is currently not active - no fault (mechanic worked on the door and triggered it, but cleared it and no airbag light currently on the dash) and I can't clear it with the BMW scanner V1.4 tool. Is it a time based error such that it will eventual erase itself after a certain amount of time when there are no longer a fault detected? Or would I need something like INPA to clear it? Thanks.

I believe that codes for the SRS stay in memory until fixed by higher level maintenance to keep people from slapping a replacement airbag in after an accident and losing a safety function or not reporting an accident to future owners.

That's an odd reason to keep those codes semi-permanent in memories? I mean, there are other ways to tell if a vehicle has been in an accident or non-operational airbag.
