Alternator e53 3.0d - types
Hi. I'm sorry for my bad english. I have an e53 3.0d 135kw year 2002. I bought a refurbished alternator. I have on the car: a three-pin alternator and a two-pin connector leads to it. I received a two-pin alternator from the supplier, can I connect a two-pin connector to it? thank you very much

The third pin is usually for remote voltage sensing so if the alternator only has 2 pins then the voltage sensing is done internally on the battery terminal. The 2 pin connector on the 2 pin alternator should be fine and a 3 pin connector with a 2 pin alternator should be fine but the 3 pin alternator with only 2 pins connected would be more likely to be a problem.

Thank you so much. The car was originally: a two-pin connector + a three-pin alternator.
I will now install: a two-pin alternator (on the original two-pin connector). But I understood from your text that it should be fine. Well, I'll do it today anyway and see if it works out. Thank you |
