OEM Windshield Eyebrow Tint

Hello Forum Friends,

I am replacing the windshield in my '03 X5 4.6is... The shop is telling me that from factory these cars came with a green tinted windshield eyebrow... I have searched around and cant find a good example...

Is anyone able to confirm this?

Thanks for any insight!

Give the "Climate Comfort" windshield glass for E53 a look..Safelite and just about any provider can get it...It reduces the greenhouse heat effect dramatically I am told...If/when I get a new windshield, I am going to look hard at the climate comfort version..

Clima comfort is OK but the difference in heat reflection is not that drastic.

Do they have heat..from the sun... in Finland ??:D

I was able to acquire the OEM style green brow and the climate comfort glass.

I am in Phoenix, AZ where the temperature is currently 108F. I will report back after I have it installed next week.

I would have thought the climate comfort windshield would be a little darker...It looks pretty light.. I would confirm part numbers...on the glass...not particularly easy to do, I plugged in the numbers on the windshield and didn't see much...

With rain sensor, climate comfort windshield is BMW part# 51317064863

Without Rain Sensor, climate comfort windshield is BMW part# 51318408529

Per Real OEM

Easiest to check with polarised sunglasses. The IR foil will show as violet tint.

Oh it's not OEM glass. I just referenced the OEM style green brow.
OEM glass is hard to source for this car and when you can, its expensive. Too expensive for insurance to cover. I am replacing the glass with OEM moldings.
In Arizona there is no penalty for number of windshield claims. Paying for OEM glass just to take a rock to the windshield a couple months later would be tough.
I replaced a windshield 3x last year for my commuter car. Arizona freeways can be brutal.

Yes I listed, the OEM part #’s for reference and cross-reference purposes.

The climate comfort glass is (or was) available as a non Genuine part from
Safelite and other manufacturers and installers. You have to ask for it and check it before it’s installed..

Fuyao lists “Sunless” as their climate comfort.

In my experience, it’s good glass. BMW has started using it OE as well.

How much is expensive? Here in Europe you can get OEM clima comfort for about 450€.

Yes, that is what I am getting. The pictures I posted are of the actual windshield that is being installed next week.

I'll be sure to report back and let ya know how it is

Our friends have a mom and pop glass shop and when they did my glass, there was no aftermarket available to them. I got an OE piece of glass. Was over $1100 their cost. :wow:

I would say yes, there is a notable difference in heat and glare...

Although out here in Phoenix it has been at least 110F so nothing really helps but there is a difference, yes

Posted pics below of the installed glass
