Crank but no start e53 x5
I need help with the diagnosis of the problem:
2005 BMW x5 4.4i History: Started with intermittent loss of power with the red battery light came on. I would feel a sudden decline in power and then it immediately came back on like a flicker of loss. The car remained on the rpm dropped. On the way to the airport I had more frequent episodes of the power loss (red battery light with power loss). Then suddenly engine fail safe and sputtering, followed by transmission fail safe. Had to pull over and towed back, each time I started back up it sputtered and ran rough with engine fail safe. That's the history leading up to the failure _ note the car hit exactly 190,000 miles on the odometer. When. I got back and pulled the codes with my foxwell scanner see video link: https://youtube.com/shorts/hBGZatQCZW4?feature=share After I cleared the codes 4 engine codes remained and 1 transmission code see the above video. After I cleared codes, I tried to start the car and now it does not start at all, it only cranks for like 5 seconds but no start, i tried 10-15 times then battery died. I connected a power pack jumper and I checked fuel pressure to rule out a feul pump issue but there was 40 psi on the guage. So I assume there is fuel. Maybe no spark? Spark plugs are old I'll replace them as maintenence but I don't know where to start hopefully the symptoms and codes can be enough for someone to point me to the problem. Some research made me think it might be: manifold cover? Transmission wiring harness bad? Corroded wires at the dme computer? Position sensors? Thank you in advance. |
Sounds like possible alternator failure off hand.

If you have 40psi no chance the car will run. It needs to be 50 ±1
It might start and try to run on 45 but usually even if 47-48 it will not be happy at all. Did you ever notice low performance on heavy throttle (typically a symptom of failing fuel pump) |

Since there is pressure can we conclude the pump is working? The car has been jerky and skipping for the past 3 years under throttle. It all started after transmission rebuild. It was diagnosed as transmission issue by a mechanic |
