Check engine light

Does anyone happen to know how to turn off the check engine light.

The car runs fine.
There are no other lights on the dash.

I have scanned the car with my Carly adapter and app and it tells me that there are no DTCs. So, i cant find a way to turn off the CEL with the carly.

Is there another way?

If you don't know someone that has one, run it over to your local "Autozone" and have them do a full code scan, I've never had my CEL light come on for no reason, but I have found body module issues before that didn't come up on a basic scan. If you plan to own the E53 for any period of time, it will pay you back 10 times over in the first year of ownership - buy a Foxwell NT510 \ 510 Pro scanner, you will be very happy you did

+1 on the foxwell and even though I sound like a foxwell dealer I'm not, it's just that you don't have to be confuser (computer) savvy and it can stay in your car full time even with the heat here in the Middle East....

I keep my foxwell in the driver's door pocket. When I was on a road trip last week, my car started throwing codes. Within a half an hour I had learned the codes (lean conditions) and verified my fuel trims and the operation of my airflow meter without ever leaving my seat. I would venture as far as saying nobody should own a BMW without one.

Exactly where I keep mine and it has saved me multiple times from being stuck in less than friendly areas or at least having to take it to a shop.

I regard it as an extra interior light...

Thanks all. I can go the autozone but I thought that the Carly would be enough to scan and take care of the vehicle. I dont think there is anything wrong at this point in time despite the CEL being on. I just want to get it turned off so I can see if it comes back on.

I'm not familiar with Carly but any OBDII reader should be able to read the code and shut it off. You definitely want to know what it is before you reset the light.

BTW - the Foxwell reader will tell you the internal codes (the BMW-specific ones) that will give you a lot more detail than just the generic OBDII codes. And it will reset both for you.

Mine has a permanent home in the glove box. Though I do barrow it from time to time for my VAG-Com and other software that I use it for - very valuable tool for sure.
