X5 on it's last legs

280,000 miles. X5 has multiple problems. But keeps on trucking. Major problems with at least two cylinders misfiring. Have been clearing codes on the fly for misfires on cylinders 1 and 5 for the past year. Like 10 to 15 times a day clearing codes to keep her going. Huge amounts of blow by gas which I now channel directly out of the valve cover into a hose leading down and out the passenger side. Totally bypassed crankcase ventilation crap. Constant drive shaft problems. This time center support bearing out again. I just did the hose and zip tie thing. Sort of clunks around but got me from Oregon to Utah. Missing gas cap. Oil leaking. Headliner drooping. Going for 300,000 or bust.

Good luck with that...

Wow! Wish I had kept a few parts to donate. I would like to see go 300,000 miles! I'm fixing to replace the CCV system. Still works, but want to update it since the intake will be off for coolant pipes. The CCV can be replaced without removing the intake. More difficult but possible.

I have a spare gas cap for you if you want it....

Move those coils around and see if the misfires also change cylinders. That's free. How old are your spark plugs?

Briansbummerbmw 10-27-2022 09:38 PM

I had changed coils as first attempt. I finally did compression test and only 30 pounds cylinder 1 50 at cylinder five. Is it valves or rings not sure. Exhaust is clean but blow by is outrageous so I think its rings. But the Jerry rigged center support bearing started squeaking and new noises. Took a look and the bearing failed from the vibration. Pink grease leaking out. The drive shaft situation. So X5 parked in storage unit to attack the driveshaft problem again. So from the time the rubber failed around the bearing to the bearing blow out was about 1200 miles. Despite the rubber hose and twist tie emergency fix. Sort of amazing.

You own vehicles in an entirely different manner than I do...

But fingers crossed for you on reaching 300k.
