Idler Control Valve

Hi All,
Just bought a brand new Bosch Idler Control Valve for my 2004 X5, 3.0i. But it does not rattle when I shake it whichever direction. This is the second one I received that doesn't rattle. Would you say it's faulty?
Appreciate your insight.

Can you see the flap? Use a tool to move it. I’m not totally sure on how it works. Especially since it’s supposed to rattle. I didn’t know it can cause oil consumption too.

Yes I can see the flap and it does move with a tool. Never mentioned about oil consumption. Please see this link. It should how it should rattle.

I see a plug goes on it. Using a wiring diagram, can 12V be applied?

Yes it can. But my question is about rattling. Should it readily be clunking when shaken like the video?

A used one does for sure. I don’t know about a new one. A new one is probably greased.

so you think I should remove the grease before use?

A twisting action might be what you need to get it to move instead of an up/down shaking.
There really is little point in checking that unless it's not working.

It doesn't hurt to use brake or carb cleaner to remove grease. It would probably wear better if pivot grease is not removed though. Mine is due to a coolant system refresh. I'll be curious to inspect mine at 160k miles.

As a new unit, I think it may just be a little stiff from the production process...It is actuated electronically... I think it is likely fine, and I would install it.

shaken a used a Idle speed control is a good test, but it only checks to see if the idle speed valve is stuck from carbon, dust, or other debris floating through the intake.
