Just wanted to update the thread - New ignition switch did indeed fix the issue.

Thanks for the update - but that of course just leads us to the question... what the heck is going on with your car that it eats ignition switches like that!? :dunno: :rolleyes:

I have 270,000kms on my factory switch... Of course, kms does not equal switch operations but still... :confused:

Was that previous some inferior quality after market part? It would be interesting to see the contacts of that failed unit if you take it apart.

OP said the previous unit was a Febi part sold by FCPEuro.

According to FCP Euro, the Febi ignition switch for X5 was made in Germany.
