Why do I want mud tires on my X5?
Someone help. :genius:
I'm eyeing a set of 275/45R20 Atturo Trail Blade mud tires to mount on my spare 20x10 style 214 wheels. And mount on my 2006 X5... What's wrong with me? |
You guys are too late (thanks a lot ). Just ordered them.
Stay tuned... |

You guys are quite the boring peanut gallery
Picked them up today from FedEx And of course couldn't wait to put them on. I still need some lug nuts for my 15mm spacers. The ones I had were maybe M12? I guess the X5 takes an M14. I plan to install them only in the rear, but they look quite good as-is if I may say so. They look the right size for the X5, only a tad oversize, not noticeable to the naked eye. I'll post some better pics when I wash it. So just a recap: I was running squared style 214 rears (20x11) with 295/40R20 Michelin Latitudes. Wore those down and got an itch to put some mud tires on my spare front style 214s (20x10). And here we are. 275/45R20 Atturo Trail Blade XT (sort of a hybrid mud tire) on the squared set of front 214s. They hum a little as expected. But ride really good actually, only got to 65mph but so far all good. I used 2 oz of balancing beads in each. Good to have some tires with tread. |
That's a good look for the E53 and they should work well in situations where there is a less than optimal road surface!

Most of us prefer speed over "run over everything" driving.

Thanks! First day of driving on them was good. It's only a subtle difference visually. A few more teaser pics of the beast. She makes a good cat warmer when not eating up asphalt.
More rain tomorrow but maybe a good wash and better pics after that. This X5 is no speed demon, barely gets out of its own way. I wish it would go fast. But I love it! |
I didn't even know what mud tyres look like :D
Looks pretty badass, have to say. Here we have virtually no dirt roads to speak off so offroading is very much a niche activity |

Thanks!
Truthfully I don't need mud tires either, only could have used them a handful of times in the last couple years. They'll be asphalt eaters like my Michelin tires were. These were only $600 shipped with tax and are supposed to get 45k miles. I'll be pushing 240k miles by then. We'll see. Here are a few better pics after I washed some of the grime off from all this rain we've been getting. There are no spacers installed yet. I have 12mm, 15mm, and just ordered some 20mm with M14x1.5 extended lug bolts. So I'll see what looks best when I get a chance. As-is they sit way better than I expected. |
very clean... needs some mud :D
