Drivers Window won't go up.
 

Hi,

I am still chasing the fault on my remote locking but would like some opinions on my window problem.

I have only recently bought the vehicle and this fault was present on purchase.

Drivers (RHD) window will go down but not up. Doesn't make any attempt to go up, not a click or sound of any kind and no movement whatsoever.

My first thought was a switch. I have now tried three different switches and all operate every window in each direction apart from drivers window UP.

I have put power directly to the window motor and the window will go up and down without issue. This rules out a motor or regulator issue, right?

Have I really tried three switches with the same fault? I checked the circuit boards and no sign of broken tracks or corrosion etc.



What do you think? Switch problem or something else?

Dude! I'm having a senior moment, but I also had a window that went in one direction. My problem turned out to be a screw that had come out and a bushing kind of thingy had broken.

I was expecting to find a broken window regulator, but what I discovered was that a plastic bit was broken. I was able to swap the same part from another location that I decided would tolerate the repaired part better than repairing the part and putting it back into the original location. In this diagram, I think my troubles came from the Item 7, CLIP.

I had to remove the window from the regulator, and then I tested the regulator with the switch and it went both ways. As I remember, I took the window regulator out of the car and plugged it in to test. I expected to find the cable unwound and kinked, but it was all good. The Item 7 was in one of the mounting locations, but not in the other, so I looked inside of the door and found it. I tried to fix it with a washer and a collar. but it didn't work. Then without any warning, the piece reappeared from having been lodged somewhere. I fixed the window without buying anything.

Thanks for reply. I have read about those clips as they seem to be a very common issue.

However with mine the window goes up and down just fine if I bypass the switch.

I have tried three switches now all with the same fault. I thought the problem must lie elsewhere but I just can't think of anything except the switch being faulty which seems unlikely 3 times but possible I guess?

Maybe I will try a fourth.....

I'd get a voltmeter and extend your testing by checking for voltages through the whole circuit from switch to motor.

Sounds like +12V at the motor sends it one way, properly, switching polarity of that sends it the other way, properly.

So the problem mostly becomes to find why the voltage is not supplied properly.

I have debugged many circuits where there is a failure mid-way that I never would have expected, and never would have found without actually measuring voltages to confirm everything with humble expectations.

Well everyone it's finally working. All my testing led me to believe it was the switch. But after buying three supposedly working switches from three different sellers that all had the same fault I began to doubt myself..

Went ahead and bought a fourth switch and it only goes and works... Should have trusted my own diagnosis but another job ticked off.

Now dare I tackle the sunroof next? Maybe in the summer...

I hope you got refunds on the so called "working" switches!

They were all bought from breakers on eBay so thankfully returns weren't a problem :thumbup:
