Car jolts sometimes when i acceperate

Hi there

I have an issue with my BMW X5 (e53 automatic Diesel 170k) when i am driving.

If i am gently accelerating and then lift my foot from the accelerator pedal and let it drive for a few seconds before i accelerate again, I get a clunk sound/jolt.
its hard to explain as it almost feels like someone has driven in to the back of you and you get a jolt moving forwards.

This does not happen all the time. I have noticed it happening when i drive hard and then slow down.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and what can it be?

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you

Sounds like the 1st to 2nd gear slam.
Have you checked fluid levels in your transmission or changed filters? Do you get any codes on insta-d, foxwell, etc?

Thank you for your reply. YES you are correct that is what it sounds like 'gear slam'.

I have not changed the gear box fluid. Just recently purchased the car about 6 months back.

So, would i be right in saying that a gear box oil change and filter change will help the issue?

There are no codes showing but i will connect my laptop to run INPA or DIS to check again.

Thank you

Without debating the whole new vs reuse fluids...

Changing filters and possibly reseting adaptations will many times fix or lessen the slam, but to be fair some people say reseting adaptations and full fluid change can speed up the death of your transmission.

Hopefully your milage won't vary... [emoji1787]

Thank you for your reply.

I feel that the car does need to have the fluids changed as it has done around 175k..... so a gear box fluid change will help...

Don't forget transfer case oil and transfer case motor/gear check.

Plus while you're there check the CSB, guibos and mounts. [emoji106] https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2783ac4f61.jpg

Thank you for your advice. I will need to spend sometime fixing these issues. But, oil change on the gear box starts first

Thank you
