Extended Warranty

I own a 2002 X5 3.0 with 36K miles. The factory warranty expires in July and I am considering an extented warranty from Warranty Direct. I will probbaly keep the X5 for 2 more years and might average about 15k miles per year.

Any thoughts/opinions about Warranty Direct? What problems have fellow 2002 X5 3.0 owners experienced between 35K and 70k miles?

Thanks...

Are you the original owner? If yes, have you considered getting the BMW extended warranty? A good deal can be found at BMW of Macon... Send Rob_ a PM for details...

I would definately go with the factory warranty over a 3rd party...Even if you are not the original owner, I think BMW can CPO the X5 and extend the warranty...It will not be cheap...but worth it.

I asked my BMW dealer if they would sell me a factory warranty and they said the only way the would sell warranty is after market "the sell a policy from a company called TechServ"?? how can your BMW sell you a CPO warranty on an existing car that you own?

I am not the original owner. My understanding BMW will only extend the warranty to the original owner. If non-original owners in this forum were able to do it, then please tell me how.

Thanks...

No only original owners can get the BMW extended warranty...and to my knowledge the only way to get a CPO warranty would be to buy a CPO vehicle...so that means if you want a warranty after the fact, you are stuck with a 3rd party warranty. However, IMO, it isn't worth the money. The warranty will not be for OEM parts (most likely) and will probably not cover most if any items that would go up. And I'm pretty sure that a BMW service dept. wouldn't recognize it which would leave you with paying the bill and then trying to get reimbursed.

I bought the Warranty Direct policy in November when my 2002 hit the 4 year mark. Time will tell how their service is since I have not had a need to service it thus far.

dont get a third party warranty they are just a headache to deal with.

dzhoka 02-19-2006 01:22 PM

how I understood !

Everything what written here meens next to me ... I should buy extended warranty from BMW SF offered to me ! And NOT other one for example one :_ " at present moment AAA Ca is offering nearly the same deel and they (AAA) have a kind of new tight relationship with BMW since a few month for now....Especially in cases related to BMW X5 ! I desided to buy anyway so question IS:____________ Anything new appiared on the isurance marketing ?? Beter perhaps ?!

Wanted to share my experience with you.

My BMW dealer won't sell me manufacture's (BMW) warranty since I'm not the original owner. They do offer me their own after-market warranty which I didn't take since their plan covers not that much.

I've finally chosen mercury Platinum plan (http://www.mercuryinsurance.com/) and kind of happy with it since it has most coverages (exclusive items) that I need. I did make a claim month ago and they work out great with my SA. They did give credit card number to my SA and it made things go easier.

I think the major point while buying a warranty is to read and review the CONTRACT. Most of plans give you 30 days money back warranty, so read it carefully within this period. Try to call their 1-800 number to ask for the coverages. Items like Windows Regulator or other well-known problems may be good candidates to examine your plan. DO NOT just trust the sales (brokers) since they may not tell you the whole truth. I've ever purchased one policy from Continental Warranty and canceled it since the contract is not as good as what sales told me. Their plan even didn't cover Windows Regulator, based on 1-800 rept told me.

Hope it helps.

BTW, I purchased mine from http://www.autowarrantybroker.com.
