Crazy locking problems...

So I don't know exactly what's fucked up.... I changed my door clip a while ago. Now the fob doesn't unlock shit, and the button next to the hazard lights doesn't unlock shit. The button on the dash pops the trunk, all doors open from the inside, I'm leaving it unlocked. Still locks when It starts to drive. This is my secondary vehicle at this point because I'm having some starting issues aswell. Just need to figure out the locking issue. Fob aint worth a shit and the button doesn't unlock anything. Anything I can check or troubleshoot, I can provide any more info. Thanks. 2006 bmw x5

Check the connection on the door switch panel.

Where would this be located or where could I find a diagram. Thanks for the speedy reply.

The driver door switch just pulls out. (use a plastic trim tool or similar. The central lock button or the trunk button are the next most likely culprit

I use foxwell nt510 to check these things. It will show you the state of almost any button so you can confirm button pressed or not pressed

Lost my 510 in a car crash, forgot to retrieve it before it got towed. Where can I find all of these? also the window control unit that just pops out it is fucked up. there is a connection that doesnt have a securement when it orients into the box. It doesnt have the lever that plugs it all the way in.

getty150 10-05-2023 08:44 PM

For starters you need all workable units/components which includes the fob...put yourself in a win situation [emoji106]

Sorry I'm a bit confused, how do I go about this?

Add a screw or zip tie etc. You need to replace the 510. I bought a 710 much nicer.

510, 710? Those are scanners? And where would I screw or zip.
Could I not buy a new connector and re terminate the wires

smdimjesus 10-06-2023 09:06 AM

Can someone explain with pics or detailed instructions please, I’m super novice and can’t locate anything

I quoted you. You said your foxwell 510 was accidentally left behind. It is the best way to troubleshoot.

It is possible to replace such a connector but finding the part is the trick. Usually somebody would cut the part from a junkyard and splice the wires though it's a good chance you can pull the pin sockets and transfer to the harvested part

Thanks for the reply. Been super busy haven’t checked out any videos or diagrams. Any other videos i should check out for other possible culprits when I sit down tonight? Also the connection when loose loses control of the windows and the mirrors.

Borrowing an image from cn90, these are the connectors you having trouble with?

http://www.xoutpost.com/attachment.p...chmentid=67402

If only the retention mechanism on the locking shell is broken, you can swap the mechanism from a donor vehicle, as I think the pin block and wiring can be removed from the locking shell.

In this image from Crowz, you can see how the internal wiring block (black part) is separate from the locking shell (blue part). This is a head unit cable but I think the door switch cables are similar.

And at a pinch, you can use a blob of hot-melt glue to hold the connector in place.

You’re spot on. That first image is the issue. I’ll search for a donor vehicle then. Also where is the second photo located? I could examine it aswell

The second image is behind the head-unit and only shown as a example.

helping the OP decide which Foxwell to buy?

I love my Foxwell NT510 Elite, but after watching a review of the NT710, I've got it on my Amazon wishlist.

The 510 works great, and it has got programming for BMW/Mini/Rolls Royce & General Motors vehicles installed (and I'm about to buy the Toyota/Lexus/Scion software, soon); so, as long as it works (bought in January '21, anticipating the X5 in May '21), I wont get the NT710. But, when and if the 510 fails, ....

Here are two good YouTube reviews of both scan tools:

NT710

andrewwynn 10-06-2023 10:16 PM

The 510 wouldn't read ECU on f10 535 2015 else I'd still be using just the 510.

The 710 with wifi and can update itself is enough to make it the one to own.

About deciding which Foxwell to get....

A good point for getting the lower cost NT510 Elite first, is that if you plan on upgrading/replacing it later, is you can move all your already purchased software from the 510 to the 710.

That may be my way to trick the wife into approving the upgrade to the 710; I'll say that I'm buying it for her newish Lexus (one brand of software is included), then I can transfer the BMW & GM software to it! I forgot to mention that:
"You can transfer your paid software from NT530/NT510 Elite//NT510 Pro/NT520 Pro to NT710 for free" (per Foxwell.us).

That's a plus for those of us that can't afford a bevy of scantools, like the pros on YouTube seem to all have.

I tired to email foxwell about converting 510 to 710 but I got no response. Did you see a link somewhere talking about this?

I referred to the Foxwell.us site instead of Foxwelldiag.com by mistake.

See FAQ#5
