Replacement Harness Plugs Found
 

I've had a missing tab on my M62 throttle plug for years and occasionally the plug would back off and cause issues. During my recent large coolant pipe/rear manifold leak fixing adventures I broke the second tab off the plug. After some searching I was able to find a company that makes replacement harness plugs for older cars. I'm not sure what other plugs Standard makes for our harnesses, but hopefully its a wide range to help us keep our X5s on the road longer. OE engine harnesses are still available from BMW, but are over $1000.

Short of gluing the old plug to the 22 year old throttle body I robbed from my old motor, I couldn't see how to do a zip tie or other fix beyond perhaps drilling small holes in the harness-end plug and safety wiring it around the female (throttle body) plug end.

I worked at an auto parts store for many years and can tell you there's a TON of cool stuff available that even the manufacturers have trouble connecting with applications they're good for. I used to spend lots of time just flipping through the illustrated buyer's guide that accompanied the application catalog looking at it all.

I just went to their website https://www.standardbrand.com/, and tried to get into their ecatalog, and though I was able to enter my year/make/model/engine and even the VIN, the site goes into an endless searching mode. How did you find your part?

The plug housings should be available from BMW but not straight forward to look them up.
+1 on the buyers guide, they are priceless! ;) I used the Standard brand injector connectors when I built my injector tester back in the day and I stocked a huge amount of Standard/Blue Streak in my shop ;)

I have a handful of connectors that have broken, such as one of the the driver's door switch connectors. I just leave that module hanging now if I have to take the driver's door off, which is only like 6 times a year.

Someone did do a post/thread on that a long time ago. Often only the housing is needed but the pins/connector pigtails are available as well, FCP used to show quite a few of them.
I'm pretty sure I have a replacement BMW IAC connector housing from FCP that I never installed somewhere in my boxes of parts because I never got back to that area and the old one is still holding on.

I got it from PartsGeek. The website loaded it when I searched for it somehow.

My indy talked me into installing the bigger bore throttle body from the 750, along with the new plug. We looked at the throttle and the female end (throttle end) was pretty beaten up from years of cramming on and taping the plug on I suppose.

Do they make xenon light harnesses? :bmw:

That I dont know...I'm rocking the OE lights style (halogen?). Bought from an XOutpost member and in pristine condition to replace my super hazy and scratched original lights.

Regarding how I found it - Based on some tipper I got from a 540 genius on Bimmerforums.com I googled AMP throttle body plug/connector/harness, etc., etc. Apparently the OE mfr of the plug is AMP. That lead me to the PartsGeek website and Standard Brands piece. Below is a link to their website where I selected 2002 BMW X5, and searched for "Throttle body connector". Buyer beware though as there was no motor option (3.0 versus 4.x). Maybe they use the same throttle connector?

The Indy guy I use is going to re-pin it, rather than splice it in with the crimp connectors. This is good because I'd be sad if I had to look at a bunch of crimp connectors up front and center when I opened the hood.
