6 disc cd changer

I bought a 6 disc cd changer from a member on this board. When I plug it in I get no response (Cartridge does not come out, no display on the radio.) Also the mounting screws that came out of his truck are smaller than the screw holes on my 2003 x5. Is there something different between years on these trucks (As far as the cd changer goes)?

Thanks'
Mark

The changers for the X5's are pretty much interchangable across all the years, as far as I am aware.

I didn't sell it to you, I promise LOL :D It should be plug-n-play if it is indeed a functioning unit. I just thought of something about the screw holes. Did he also provide the little steel screw clips? These screw clips slide over the edge of the component rack and align with the holes in the rack. You then screw your screws through these clips. Does that make sense? It doesn't sound like there is any power going to the unit. Did you check the fuses?

Are you sure you plugged in the correct power supply harness? When I installed my cd changer, I found two plugs that would fit into it...one was for the cd changer, another one was for some other component (never figured out what it was for). Anyways, make sure you use the wire harness up near the cd changer.

The correct 3-pin power wire has a brown wire in the bundle.

Yep it had a bad fuse. I'll pick one up tomorrow (Can these be bought at the local auto parts stores?)

So the mounting brackets require clips. Were do I find these? BMW only?

Yeah, I win :D Yes, your nearby auto parts store will have the fuse. As far as I know, you need to get the clips at the dealer. Here is what they look like, you will need 4. Does that make sense now about the clips?

I finally got around to installing the changer today. New fuse and I thought I was good. The radio sees the changer and will let me select a cd. I hear it load but do not hear any music. Any Ideas on what the problem is?

If your X has DSP, you will need the coax jumper cable. This is needed for 01-03 X5's. Dealer item. Goes between the changer & the DSP amp. I have an extra one if you can't find one. My '05 does not require it, but my '02 did.

I do not think mine has DSP. how do I find out if I do or not?
