E53 X5 Very sluggish acceleration.

Hi

Can anyone help me with this issue that i have on my car?

I have a 54 plate E53 X5.

My weekend project was to change the front drive shaft and a few other parts on the suspension.

That went well and today when i was driving my car i noticed a new problem.

I was not able to accelerate quickly like previously.

The engine sounds sluggish and performance is poor.

Can anyone give me a pointer where i can start looking ?

Thank you

It would help us help you if you could tell us the engine and the year (the UK "54 plate" means second half of 2004?). ;)

sorry.... i should have given more details.

The engine is a 3.0d turbo and the car is 2004

just checking to see what engine code it is....

Thanks. Most likely it's an M57TU - same as mine.

First thing - check you have not dislodged the vacuum lines for the vacuum reservoir in the right side fender well (behind the RHS head light).

Sorry for the late reply.

I went to the car and had a look at the pipe you showed in the picture.

Weird thing is that it was loose. So, i put it back in nice and secure.

Now, here in the UK it is 9.35pm and raining. So, i will test drive the car tomorrow and give you an update to the issue.

Thank you so much for your help

Well done.

It seems this vacuum hose is easily dislodged when working anywhere near the area and if the vacuum reservoir is disconnected, the DDE (Digital Diesel Electronics - the engine management system) can no longer control the turbo charger correctly - hence the terrible performance.

(and thanks to member omodos for the photo of the reservoir! ;) )

Wow! If I see a low priced nonworking diesel X5, I'll be looking for this vacuum hose! I guess it's pre servo activation?

It's the vacuum control for the variable geometry turbo actuator - there is a vacuum feed going into the reservoir, which feeds a pressure modulator controlling the actuator.
